What do i need to become a Coast Lifeguard;

Anyone can become a Coast Lifeguard, as long as they meet the following basic conditions for participation in the training:

Qualification Criteria

Basic Knowledge of Swimming

Age Limitations

From 18 years old up to 60 years old.

Degree Recognition

From the Hellenic Ministry of Maritime and the Hellenic Coast Guard.

Training

– DURATION: Two (2) Weeks

– CLASSES BEGIN: Every Saturday

– PRACTICAL COURSES: Conducted in Pools (Municipality of Athens Pools, Gkrava Pools, Kolokynthous Pools, Goudi Pools) and also in shores (Agios Kosmas Beach in Elliniko, Mikro Kavouri Beach)

– THEORETICAL COURSES: Conducted in HLA Headquarters (Mantzagriotaki 72, Davaki Sq., Kallithea, 4th floor) and also with Advanced Distance Learning for many courses!

During the training, all protection measures against Covid-19 are observed as defined by the State and the National Health Board.

Examination

The theoretical examination is done in writing, in the Greek language, in a room that has been predetermined, at certain dates and times, without allowing people who are not related to the exams to enter.

The theoretical examination includes the examination of the candidates in a questionnaire of multiple choice answers. The number of questions is fifty (50).

At edla.hcg.gr/Skill Life Exam Questions, a pool of one thousand (1000) closed type questions has been posted, with three possible answers, of which only one is correct.

The theoretical examination lasts sixty (60) minutes. The candidate who has answered at least forty-seven (47) questions correctly is considered successful in the theoretical examination.

Certificate Validity

Each lifeguard license, until the holder reaches forty five (45) years, is valid for four years and is renewed within the last six months before its expiration, if interested parties submit at their request a renewal petition to any Port Authority in the country.

The right to be employed as a Coast Lifeguard requires the applicant to have a valid working licence and:

a) is aged from eighteen (18) to forty five (45) years and annually renews the certificates / attestations of sub-indent (4) of indent (a) of paragraph 2 as described in the law;

b) is over forty five (45) to sixty (60) years old. After the completion of forty five (45) years until the completion of fifty five (55) years, each lifeguard license is valid for two years, while after the completion of fifty five years until the completion of sixty (60) years, each lifeguard license is of annual duration.

Each lifeguard license is renewed within the last six months before its expiration, if interested parties submit at their request a renewal petition to any Port Authority in the country.

Where can i work as lifeguard;

The Hellenic Lifeguard Academy has the largest job search network in Greece.

All graduates of the Hellenic Lifeguard Academy can work on busy beaches – shores of Municipalities & hotels throughout Greece, as required by law.

Those Coast Lifeguards who have a Professional License from the Port Authority, can also work directly as Pool Lifeguards without having attended the relevant training.
