What do i need to become a Pool Lifeguard;

Anyone can become a Pool Lifeguard, as long as they meet the following basic conditions for participation in the training:

Basic Knowledge of Swimming

Age Limitations

From 18 years old up to 60 years old

Degree Recognition

From the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health.

Training

– DURATION: 4 Days

– CLASSES BEGIN: Every Monday

– PRACTICAL COURSES: Conducted in closed, heated pools (Municipality of Athens Pools, Gkrava Pools,Kolokynthous Pools, Goudi Pools)

– THEORETICAL COURSES: Conducted in HLA Headquarters (Mantzagriotaki 72, Davaki Sq., Kallithea, 4th floor) and also with Advanced Distance Learning for many courses!

During the training, all protection measures against Covid-19 are observed as defined by the State and the National Health Board.

Examination

Theoretical Examination

The theoretical examination is done in writing, in the Greek language, in a room that has been predetermined, at certain dates and times, without allowing people who are not related to the exams to enter. The theoretical examination includes the examination of the candidates in a questionnaire of multiple choice answers. The number of questions is thirty (30) from a tank of 600 possible questions. The candidate who has answered at least twenty eight (28) questions correctly is considered successful in the theoretical examination.

Practical Examination

All graduates must be judged as successful in the following sports trials, without swimming equipment:

  1. One hundred (100 m) freestyle, front, back & side swimming
  2. Swimming fifty meters (50 m), with visual contact of the endangered, in less than one and a half minutes (1:30”)
  3. Lifting an object weighing at least three (3) kilograms, from a depth of at least two meters (2 m.)
  4. Underwater swimming of at least fifteen meters (15 m)
  5. Traction (towing) of the endangered, at a distance of at least twenty-five (25) meters.

Certificate Validity

The validity of the certificate is four years, for persons who have not exceeded 45 years of age. After the completion of forty five (45) years until the completion of fifty five (55) years, the certificate is valid for two years, while after the completion of fifty five (55) years until the completion of sixty (65) years, the certificate is valid for one year. With the exception of the above and especially for tourist accommodation with less than fifty (50) beds or with a swimming pool depth of less than 1.5 meters, the validity period of the certificate is four years, regardless of the age of the examinee. During the last six (6) months before the expiration of the certificate, those interested in renewal must repeat the part of the theoretical courses concerning the training in first aid (by a first aid doctor) and be judged as successful in the sports tests required by law.
